More masks! One chapter member was taught to sew during the pandemic this summer by her 94-year-old mother. She then created scrub caps for her daughter, a nursing student working at Howard County General Hospital, and for nurses at Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Georgia. She also mailed 29 masks to the Yakama Indian National Reservation in Harrah, Washington.

Our Chapter found a way to support veterans during the quarantine mandated during the COVID-19 pandemic. We participated in a parade of vehicles April 25 honoring a local veteran, Gerald Greenfield, Lt. Col. (retired), who was celebrating his 100th birthday. We joined active duty military personnel, members of the American Legion, fraternity brothers from Omega Psi Phi in their purple and gold jackets and neighbors and friends, all wearing masks and practicing social distancing. Our vehicles snaked around Mr. Greenfield’s Columbia neighborhood as we honked and waved and showed our handmade signs wishing him a happy birthday.

Chapter members collaborated in sewing fabric masks in April 2020 for family members visiting loved ones in a local hospice as well as essential employees of other local care-giving facilities. This vintage DAR paperweight came in handy holding patterns and fabric in place.
